On 15 storey brothels

I support legalised prostitution and the licensing of brothels. I know enough about trafficking and child exploitation in the global sex industry to believe that more transparency and regulation is better than the horrors of hidden exploitation.

If something is legal, then it should be allowed to exist as unfettered by petty regulation as possible. This is true of all things. Regulation is an important social and political tool, but it is there to balance individual and  collective rights, and that balance is important. If I am consistent then, the desire of the Chow brothers to build a 15 storey brothel up by the Sky Tower should not be vicariously obstructed. I find it particularly interesting that Sky City might be discomforted by the idea. In my view, casino operations add little to our social well-being, and, like brothels, are by many a tolerated feature of our society. Pots and kettles come to mind.

Anyway, I'll believe it when I see it!

  1. Appearances are skin deep; underneath it all Sky City is not glitzy at all, in fact it is very much lacking in substance.
I don't know much about brothels, however a 15 storey one seems to be very large. Is there enough demand in Auckland for all that space? In terms of floor area, would huge be a huge increase in capacity? I suspect that either (a) the Chow brothers are poor businessmen and have no idea what they are doing (seems unlikely) or (b) they are up to something else and only plan to use a couple of floors for prostitution.
I'm picking option b, which leads to the question of what the Chow brothers are really up to. Knowing the answer might lead to understanding why Sky City are really objecting.

  2. Also, I would be grateful if you could find another "r" for the title of the post - I'm sure you can find a place for it :)
